Traditional neighborhood developments (“TND”)
are compact, have walkable destinations and emphasize the
“public realm,” which is what you see when you walk or drive down
the street or from your front door or front porch.
Neighborhoods are more intimate with narrow tree-lined streets,
wide sidewalks and garages hidden from street view. This makes the
streets more attractive and pedestrian-friendly, encouraging a more
active lifestyle and gives neighbors greater opportunity to
socialize with one another.
Although The Gardens at Oxbow is the first traditional
neighborhood development in Western New York, there are hundreds of
new urbanism developments in other parts of the United States. Some
of the larger and better known traditional neighborhood developments
include:

- Celebration in Orlando, Florida developed by The Disney

- Kentlands in Gaithersburg, Maryland
- Birkdale Village in Huntersville, North Carolina outside of
